The Childrens House (ages 3 - 5)

There are three parallel groups in the Pre-school. In all groups, there is a mix of children between the ages of three to five. The size of each group varies depending on the size of the room. In one group, for example, there are 18 children with two full-time teachers, while in a second group, 12 children are attended to by one full-time and one part-time teacher. The children's school day starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. The children receive a morning snack and a warm lunch. They rest for a half-hour and play outdoors twice, weather permitting.

From 8 a.m. onwards, the children work individually with the Montessori materials, aided by their teachers. The time between 8 a.m and 9:45 a.m. is the most intensive period for learning during the day. There is a group-activity after the common circle time.

The common language is English. Children without English proficiency receive English lessons on a daily basis. The remaining children receive a first introduction into the German language through group activities, during which the teacher speaks German exclusively.

Tasks and Goals

The children are exposed to the traditional Montessori areas in the Pre-school. Additionally, a broad spectrum of creative and social activities is offered to the children. This means that the children are not only being prepared for everything that is expected of them in school, but also to many other areas that help their further development. Some children also begin to acquire traditional school knowledge.
